Best Couples in Film and Television

Given that today is Valentine's Day, I thought that it would be fun to make a list of the best couples that film and television have to offer. Some of these couples didn't last for long but that doesn't mean they aren't extremely memorable.

10. Mufasa and Sarabi (The Lion King)

Even though Simba and Nala are the main couple of Disney's The Lion King, Mufasa and Sarabi are definitely a power couple. In both the original from 1994 and the 2019 remake, their love holds strong even after Mufasa is murdered by his brother. It's always inspiring to see Sarabi hold her ground against Scar and keep Mufasa alive when the Pridelands become a desolate wasteland.

9.  Phillip Carlyle & Anne Wheeler (The Greatest Showman)

From the moment they first meet, it is clear that Phillip and Anne's relationship is something that is magical. Phillip defies his family's desires so that he can be with Anne Wheeler and claims that they can 'rewrite the stars' to be together. Their love becomes the new hope for Barnum's circus when Phineas T. Barnum leaves to tour with opera singer Jenny Lind. Due to how Anne helps Phillip see the world differently, they end up taking on the role of ring leaders at the end of the film when Barnum passes his hat off to them.

8.  Toby Curtis and Happy Quinn (Scorpion)

Opposites most definitely attract. Happy Quinn and Toby Curtis are two geniuses who truly prove that love can come from anywhere. Seasons 1 and 2 of the show showcase the Harvard trained behaviorist trying to woo over the mechanic. During the second half of the show's run, the two are married and become the team's power couple. Happy may be cold hearted at times but nothing can stop her from opening it up to the goofy antics of Dr. Tobias M. Curtis.

7.  Sam Winchester and Eileen Leahy (Supernatural)

Even though Eileen isn't introduced till season 11 of the long running CW show, the chemistry she has with the youngest Winchester brother rivals any relationship that Sam's older brother Dean gets himself involved in. Sam treats her like royalty given that she lost her hearing when she was a baby. He knows how to properly treat her and never tells her to stand down despite her disability. She shows her strength, too, when she's out in the field hunting alongside the brothers. They shared a tear jerking goodbye in season 15 when Sam and Eileen decided it would be best to go separate ways for their safety.

6. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts (Iron Man Franchise)

Literally the couple that launched a universe, Tony and Pepper are essentially the parents of the MCU. Watching their relationship grow throughout the Iron Man and Avengers films is certainly rewarding. The best part of it was seeing it all come together with their daughter, Morgan, in Avengers: Endgame. Even after Tony's sacrifice to protect his family, Pepper stands by his side and promises that everything will be ok. If that isn't the power of love, I don't know what is.

5. Han Solo and Leia Organa (Star Wars Franchise)

Possibly the oldest existing couple on this list, I'm not sure there is any couple more iconic than the Princess/General and Smuggler turned hero. They may have their falling outs but they always end up finding each other again. Both parts of this coupling are headstrong and stubborn. This couple proves that love can stretch to a galaxy far, far away.

4. Sylvester Dodd and Megan O'Brien (Scorpion)

Even though Sylvester and Megan started off with a rocky start, they ended up the sweetest couple that Team Scorpion had to offer. Stricken down with illness, Megan's life was pretty much doomed but that fateful day when Sly was tasked with taking care of her definitely made the last year of her life worth living. Though it is established that Kathrine McPhee's Paige is charged with teaching the geniuses about emotion, it is ultimately Megan who opens up Scorpion's human calculator to the power of love. The best moment this couple had was Sylvester allowing Megan to see the stars one more time by decorating her hospital room with glow in the dark stars.

3. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and Astrid Hofferson (How To Train Your Dragon franchisee)

Hiccup and Astrid's relationship might be one of the most memorable parts of the How To Train Your Dragon Films. They started off disagreeing with pretty much everything but ended the series as Berk's Chief and Chieftess all due to their shared love for dragons. As the films go on, Hiccup and Astrid are seen to work off each other just as well as Hiccup and his draconian companion Toothless do. That's why it is extremely satisfying to see the pay off in How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World which ends with the two tying the knot in a beautiful snow covered Viking wedding.

2. Flynn Rider and Rapunzel (Tangled)

A wanted thief and a missing princess? Yep, that sounds like a Disney couple to me! Flynn starts off selfish and only wanting to be Rapunzel's chaperone to get his satchel back, the isolated princess ends up being the one to turn this thief's life around and make him pursue a better life. Rapunzel fulfills her dream to see the lanterns thanks to Flynn and, as the lights fly into the sky, finds her new dream to be with Flynn forever.

1. Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter (Captain America Franchise)

Steve and Peggy's relationship definitely makes the Captain America films worth their while. Even when Steve was at his lowest point, Peggy was always a constant for him. They made each other the happiest couple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a legendary one at that. Peggy is Steve's best girl and remained that way even after she dies in her sleep in Civil War. Their connection to each other and love that they shared makes Steve's decision to travel back in time at the end of Avengers: Endgame the perfect ending to a series 11 years in the making.
