A few years ago, a graphic appeared online putting all the animated Disney films in order on a timeline. As a Disney fanatic, this graphic made me undeniably happy. It made watching a Disney film more fun to me because it allowed me to think about possible effects the film before had on the one I was currently watching. However, one part of it bothered me. I consider the 1994 film of The Lion King to be a spectacle and one of the greatest movies the studio has made. On the timeline, The Lion King was placed in 1994 since that was the year of it's release. That didn't sit well with me and so I thought and theorized about where this amazing film could fit on the timeline. The Incredibles has some of the most relatable and beloved characters Pixar has turned out. Everyone who sees it can relate to at least one of the family members. Audiences remember the scene where Dash ran on water or Helen piloting the plan in complex maneuvers to keep her family safe on the way to save Bob. However, there is one character that seems to be overlooked when regarding this modern day masterpiece: Syndrome's right hand man (or should I say woman) Mirage. Her Role True to her name, Mirage's story is an illusion. Everything about her is if she doesn't exist. In fact, she even says to Bob when asking him to return to his work as Mr. Incredible: "According to the government, neither of us exist." (This review contains many spoilers for the much anticipated sequels 14 years in the making) "Too late! 15 years too late!" Syndrome said to Mr. Incredible after the superhero begs the villain to call off missiles that is heading straight for his family. Replace 15 with 14 and you have the connecting thought of everyone in the audience. After years of sequels to Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and Cars, the Pixar film that needed that the sequel the most finally got the follow-up it needed. After years of waiting, was this sequel on the level of Toy Story 3 or does it land on the same level of Cars 2 . Incredibles 2 is simply...incredible! (Note: this theory is mainly filled with my own opinion and is also my own interpretation of events in The Lion King) The Lion King is one of the greatest animated films of all time. It's gorgeously done with classic characters and catchy songs that you'll be humming for days after you watch it. One of the things that people remember the most about this masterpiece of a film is the devious Scar who rids the kingdom of the beloved Mufasa in order to be king. We follow Mufasa's son Simba throughout the film as he discovers what it means to be a king and that Hakuna Matata is an alright philosophy every so often. How could Disney possibly continue this story and have it be on par with the original? What would they need to do to make a sequel justifiable? How could they make it memorable? I've recently re-watched the Jumanji reboot, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle for the first time since I saw it in theaters. The first viewing of it that I had resulting in my sides splitting from laughing so much. I knew that when it came out on blu-ray that I would have to add it to my collection. Is it worth the money or should it be buried in the style of the original board game where we see it being placed at the end of the first film? I still suffered from sore ribs from laughing so hard but it made me realize that it isn't the story or the Robin Williams tribute that makes the film work. . . it's the main four characters of the game: Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Shelly Oberon (Jack Black), Franklin "Mouse" Finbar (Kevin Hart), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillian). A lot of the films I have seen this past year have been amazing. They were thoroughly enjoyable for every second. However, only 10 can make it to the top of the year. These are the films that have stuck out in my mind as the best of the best for the year. All of these films are different and stand out for their own reasons. Each one has something unique about it that made it as memorable as it is.
